Â For COVID-19 Response Coordinator Michael Schultz, the first task was finding a company to take on testing the university. He said Shield Illinois was the first company he hoped would do the job. Â âFirst we were going to go with Shield Illinois with the University of Illinois system and that was our plan,â Schultz said. âWe gave them a deadline of when they needed to be FDA approved and they werenât [approved by the deadline].â Â Instead, he went with GENETEWORx, a testing company based out of Virginia. There were four categories that were most important to fill for the company to be chosen: a non-invasive saliva test, a way to accept insurance and process it, a company-provided staff to work at the testing sites and the price.Â

Surry Central avoided its second loss of the season on Tuesday night by staving off a young, but talented North Surry volleyball team. The Golden Eagles used five sets to leave Coach Ron King Gymnasium with a win 25-22, 25-22, 15-25, 24-26, and 15-8. When looking over the Western Piedmont Athletic 2A Conference standings, Surry Central finds itself in second place behind unbeaten West Stokes (8-0 overall and won head-to-head matchup a few weeks back). On Tuesday night, the first and second sets were eerily similar. Both were close for the duration and ended in 25-22 scores to Surry Central. The Eagles maintained steady leads during those games behind poised service efforts across the board and impact plays (timely kills or tips) from junior Mia McMillen.
