Okla Co Detention Center Says 4 Inmates Have Died In Last 3 Weeks

Now, the state medical examiner is working to pin point how exactly the detainee died. The detention center said staff found the 59-year-old detainee unresponsive in his cell around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night. Emergency responders were called to the scene, but when they arrived he had already died. The detention center said the detainee did not have a cellmate. The OCDC investigation unit is conducting an investigation to learn what led up to his death. This is the fourth inmate to die within the past 16 days. The Oklahoma County Detention Center said Brad Leon Lane’s cellmate killed him after a fight over the weekend. Two others died at the end of December.

Newcastle Public Schools 5th-Grade Students To Transition To Distance Learning For 1 Week

By: Katelyn Ogle NEWCASTLE, Okla. - Newcastle Public Schools said its fifth-grade students will transition to distance learning starting Monday, January 11th through Thursday the 14th, because several teachers are in quarantine. The district said it does not have enough available substitutes or staff to cover for the teachers in self-isolation. Newcastle Public Schools said teachers will be posting assignments and having office hours to help students with their homework. The district will use the same distance learning format it used during the Fall. If your student needs a device, NPS wants you to contact your student’s homeroom teacher. The devices should be ready to be picked up around 1 p.m. Monday at the Fifth Grade Center Office.

Scissortail Park To Host Family Friendly, Early Bird New Year s Eve Event

Thursday, December 31st 2020, 6:59 am By: Katelyn Ogle Scissortail Park is hosting a family-friendly New Years Eve celebration with COVID-19 safety measures in mind. The park said it’s custom-built scissortail bird logo is ready to be raised during the countdown to 2021. The countdown starts at 7 p.m., so families will have enough time to get home and ready for early bedtimes. Immediately after the bird is raised, the park said a five minute fireworks show will begin, rain or shine. The live music has been canceled and the skating park is closed because of winter weather. The park said food trucks will be around and the Hot Chocolate Hut will be open.

According to Publicradiotulsa.org the Oklahoma State Department of Health’s PR Firm, Saxum, said they are opting out because the U.S. Department of Health and Human services is now publishing daily national COVID-19 data on Healthdata.org, giving Oklahomans a real-time look at the data. “They’re posting all that data on their website. The information is available to the public,” said Governor Kevin Stitt during a press conference. “If our team wants any recommendations we’ll call them for it. The data is there, and I’ll leave it up to these guys if they want to get more recommendations from it.”
