Avene Xeracalm oil cleaner This is a no-nonsense oil cleanser that is sold in almost every pharmacy in New Zealand. My girlfriends use this, and they say it works well to remove pesky eye makeup. If you double cleanse, this is your first step.
Murad Clarifying cream cleanser If you’re struggling with acne, this is the cleanser for you. The cream formula (which is more like a gel) contains two types of salicylic acid. Salicylic acid is a BHA that can penetrate deep into the epidermis to unclog blocked pores.
Elemis Pro-collagen energising marine cleanser This is my favourite gel cleanser on the market now, because of its sweet, marine scent. It smells so good.

Washing your face at least once a day is enough for dry or sensitive skin, whereas oily skin might require you to cleanse at least twice a day.
Cleansing your face helps remove built-up impurities, things such as dead skin cells that you haven’t entirely shed, dirt from the side of the road, excess oil, and the day’s gunk, all of which is sometimes hard to see with the naked eye. If you let these impurities build up, they clog your skin’s pores, causing acne and blackheads. If you wash your face, it’s likely you’re using a cleanser that’s been combined with water to emulsify. Some people cleanse in the shower. Others, like me, cleanse over a sink with lukewarm water. I like to have piping hot showers and my precious skin can’t cope with that temperature.
