When Evelyn Araluen and Jonathan Dunk, co-editors of literary magazine Overland, announced the shortlist for the magazine’s Nakata Brophy prize for Indigenous poetry last year, they received a letter of complaint. The point of contention? There were no men in the shortlist.
“We only had women and nonbinary entries,” says Araluen. “And it was our biggest year [in terms of entry numbers] for the prize.”
Only a few years ago, she says, female entrants to any poetry prize would have been hugely outnumbered by men – and Indigenous poets were few and far between.
‘Snowkissed’ Hallmark Movie Premiere: Trailer, Synopsis, Cast
01/30/21 AT 8:00 AM
Hallmark channel started 2021 off strong with a slate of films meant to help fans wipe away all of the concerns and fears they had from 2020, but all good things must come to an end including the “New Year, New Movies” lineup. The final new movie, “Snowkissed,” stars Jen Lilley and Chris McNally.
Fans will certainly be in for a treat with this film, as it will be the first where Lilley and McNally both star, though they are both Hallmark vets. McNally may be best recognized for his work as Lucas on the series “When Calls the Heart,” but other titles he’s starred in have included “Sailing into Love,” “A Winter Princess” and “The Sweetest Heart,” as well as the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries title “Rocky Mountain Christmas.”
