The artificial reef aims to replenish marine life eradicated by a nuclear power plant’s water cooling system. The plant has now been shut for more than a decade, giving the aquatic ecosystems time to rebuild.
“We’re troubled by the number of bills this year that seek to undermine the Coastal Act in the name of promoting housing,” said Kate Huckelbridge, executive director of the California Coastal Commission.
After a legislative victory last year, pro-housing legislators and advocates want to strip the California Coastal Commission of more authority in order to spur housing development.
