Contributed photo January 25, 2021 THE international longlist for one of the world’s largest literary prizes for young writers the Swansea University Dylan Thomas Prize is announced on January 21, 2021, featuring a record number of nine debut writers.
The list comprises nine novels, two poetry collections and one short story collection, and at a time when travel has been restricted and contact with loved ones limited, these extraordinary titles eight of which are by female writers transport the reader from Seoul to Hong Kong, Syria to Kilburn, Montana to Dublin, in a powerful exploration of homeland, identity, and relationships:
THE EVE ILLUSION
by Giovanna & Tom Fletcher (Penguin £7.99, 400 pp)
Giovanna and Tom Fletcher are certainly a power couple. The Duchess of Cambridge was a guest on Giovanna’s podcast, Happy Mum, Happy Baby, while Tom is a member of band McFly, and their books regularly top bestsellers’ lists.
Eve, the heroine of their Eve Of Man fantasy series, was the first baby girl for decades to be born on Earth, which has been devastated by climate change.

Among publishers, HarperCollins’ 4th Estate leads in this year’s Dylan Thomas Prize longlist, with three of the 12 titles announced today.
Twelve Titles Include Poetry, Novels, and Stories
Today (January 21), Swansea University’s Dylan Thomas Prize has announced its 2021 longlist of 12 titles. They include nine novels, two poetry collections, and one short story collection.
And reading that, you’ll immediately recall that one of the distinctions of this awards program is that it’s open to multiple formats.
It also is the prize that honors writers under 39 years of age because that’s the age at which the award program’s eponymous poet died.

The prize is awarded for the best published literary work in the English language written by an author aged 39 or under.
Bryan Washington scooped the award last year for his debut short story collection LOT, “telling stories about the marginalised communities” in Houston in the US.
The shortlist is revealed in March and the winner on May 13, the eve of International Dylan Thomas Day.
