Budapest is set to host the second leg of the International Modern
Pentathlon Union's controversial revamped Pentathlon World Cup format,
with a crucial Fifth Discipline Working Group meeting also scheduled.
The International Modern Pentathlon Union has revealed that it has
received 61 proposals for a new fifth discipline to replace riding,
and claimed its Working Group has made "significant progress" during
the first quarter of the year.
Pentathlon United has ramped up its criticism of the International
Modern Pentathlon Union's perceived lack of transparency in its
replacement of riding with an alternative fifth discipline, insisting
"athletes need time to prepare" amid confusion over testing.
A total of 46 modern pentathletes who have won Olympic medals over the
past 60 years have signed an open letter calling upon International
Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach to intervene personally and
prevent riding from being dropped from the sport.
