県内陸部で猛暑日を記録した17日、村山市本飯田の畑で倒れていた近くの女性（83）が熱中症の疑いで死亡した。さらに午後6時までに10～90代の男女18人が発熱や頭痛などの症状で救急搬送されたが、いずれも中等症か軽症とみられる。
村山市消防本部によると、死亡した女性の同居家族から同日午後6時ごろに119番通報があった。救急隊が畑に到着した時には心肺停止状態だった。
内陸9地点で今年初猛暑日
17日の県内は高気圧に覆われて晴れ渡り気温がぐんぐん上昇した。最高気温（午後4時までの観測値）は新庄36.0度、高畠35.9度、山形35.6度などで内陸の9地点が今年初の猛暑日（最高気温35度以上）となった。新庄は同日の気象庁の全国ランキングで高い方から4位だった。1位は福島市の36.5度。
