Scientists have discovered evidence of a long-lost continent off the northern coast of Australia that supported 500,000 people some 70,000 years ago.This continent, called the North West Shelf,.
A study published in late December revealed an area that may be the lost civilization of Atlantis, and could have hosted more than 500,000 of our ancestors.
The massive submerged landmass is approximately 1.6 times the size of the UK and features various geological forms and water bodies. Scientists estimate that it once sustained a staggering population of 50,000 to 500,000 people.
Sonar mapping revealed signs of rivers and freshwater lakes across a now-sunken landscape almost twice the size of the UK, where humans could once have thrived.
