The National Conference, biggest regional party of Jammu and Kashmir, on Thursday announced it would contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections and possible assembly polls in the Union Territory "on its own".

The National Conference is part of the Congress-led INDIA bloc, ex-Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said this evening, hours after his father Farooq Abdullah's "categorical" assertion that the party "will contest elections on its own".
