The Islamabad High Court has dismissed the petition seeking cancellation of in-person O/A Level exams across the country.
Chief Justice Athar Minallah remarked that courts can’t interfere in policy matters, adding that the case can be sent to the National Command Operation Center. The federal government can’t issue instructions to Cambridge, the judge remarked.
The students said that it is too risky for them to take exams in person, adding that the exams should be moved online.
KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Wednesday sought a reply from the provincial government in a petition against launching of commercial projects on mangroves land in twin islands of Bundal and Buddo off Karachi’s coast.
A two-judge bench comprising Justices Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Amjad Ali Sahito was hearing a set of petitions challenging the vires of the Pakistan Islands Development Authority (PIDA) Ordinance promulgated by the federal government in September last year.
During Wednesday’s proceedings, assistant attorney general Hussain Bohra submitted that the ordinance had already lapsed on Jan 3.
However, he requested time to seek instructions from the federal authorities in this regard.

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition against appointment of permanent representative of Pakistan to the United Nations Munir Akram observing that the issues raised in the petition are related to matters of foreign policy, diplomatic missions and security of the country, which are neither justiciable nor they fall within the judicial domain for interference.
Petitioner Anis Haroon and other women rights activists opposed the appointment of permanent representative of Pakistan to the US by the government submitting that criteria in respect of employment of retired diplomat provided under Section 14 of the Civil Servants Act has not been complied with. The court was requested to declare the appointment of Munir Akram as unlawful and restrain him from performing functions of the country’s representative at the UN.

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court has directed the provincial authorities to submit a progress report about finalisation of the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for medico-legal tests in rape cases.
When a petition seeking abolition of two-finger virginity tests in rape cases came up for hearing before a two-judge bench headed by Justice Mohammad Ali Mazhar, the chief technical officer of the health department submitted that they had sought an academic/technical opinion on the proposed SOPs from professors of forensic medicine of three universities.
