India records 3.14 lakh fresh covid cases, 2,104 deaths - biggest daily spike in the world coastaldigest.com news network April 22, 2021 New Delhi, Apr 22: India has reported a record 3,14,835 new Covid-19 cases, continuing the steady rise in fresh infections for the 43rd consecutive day, with record 2,104 deaths, according to data by the Health Ministry.  This is the biggest daily spike recorded in the world. Previously, United States had seen the highest single-day rise in Covid cases (3 million). This pushes the country s total case count to 1,59,30,965, with total 1,34,54,880 recoveries. The death toll is at 1,84,657 and active cases stand at 22,91,428. Total number of those vaccinated under the government s inoculation program is 13,23,30,644.

Union Leader Kodihalli Chandrashekar Detained As Karnataka Bus Employees Strike Enters Fourth Day: Report

There are four state owned transport corporations and all of them have gone on strike (File) Belagavi: Kodihalli Chandrashekar, who is leading the ongoing Karnataka state owned transport employees strike, has been detained, sources said. Police took Chandrashekar into their custody and are taking him to Bengaluru, sources said. According to sources in the Belagavi administration, Mr Chandrashekar wanted to meet the Deputy Commissioner of the district, which was not granted. Angry over it, the leader decided to stage a demonstration there. The district authorities then detained him and directed that he be sent out of the district. Meanwhile, fissures seem to have opened among sections of the state-owned transport corporation bus employees federation as the strike over their salary related issues entered the fourth day on Saturday.
