Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to release Rs 18,177 crore to battle a crisis arising out of drought in Karnataka. The CM, along with state revenue minister Krishna Byre Gowda, met the PM in Delhi and submitted a memorandum highlighting that out of the 236 taluks, 223 had been hit by drought, with 196 of them severely affected.
India s Covid active caseload Monday rose to 1,828 while one death was recorded in Kerala. On Sunday, India logged 335 fresh Covid infections and the number of active cases rose to 1,701, the health ministry said. Meanwhile, Karnataka s minister for health and family welfare Dinesh Gundu Rao on Monday advised senior citizens and those with comorbidities to wear masks. "There has been no serious impact so far as neither clustering or any unusual pattern is seen. We have to keep a close watch clinically and epidemiologically," added the member.
Karnataka was the first state to introduce a groundbreaking Information Technology Policy in 1997, he said, adding that this initiative made the state a cornerstone of India s economy, contributing a substantial 25 per cent to the nation s GDP. Siddaramaiah said these policies are not developed in isolation, but are driven by collaboration between industry and academia in tandem with the state government.
