Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is set to launch the Gruha Lakshmi program in Mysuru, Karnataka, as part of the party s efforts to gain votes and improve its performance in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The program aims to provide monthly financial assistance of Rs 2,000 to 1.08 crore women heads of families. The event is also expected to boost the profile of Women and Child Welfare minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar in the Kittur-Karnataka region.
An estimated 67.79 per cent voter turnout was reported in the elections to 14 Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka in the first phase on Thursday with the polls being by and large peaceful with no major incident reported.
