Explore the groundbreaking partnership between the Catalyst Quartet, known for their Grammy-winning performances, and a highly respected arts management group. Find out how this collaboration will elevate their music and reach new audiences.
There are few joys quite like finding your new favorite sculpture or painting in an unlikely corner of the Met maze – and with more than two million artworks in our collection, there’s always a gem waiting to be uncovered. This season, the Catalyst Quartet (our ’22-’23 Quartet in Residence) takes their place among the art to help you discover the music that history has pushed to the margins. Join them throughout the galleries for a program that casts a modern eye on the Western musical canon and highlights previously silenced voices. Who knows, maybe you’ll leave with a new favorite composer! Featuring works by Florence Price, Joseph Bologne (Chevalier de Saint-Georges), Germaine Tailleferre, Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel, William Grant Still, Ethel Smyth, and George Walker.
Catalyst Quartet cellist Karlos Rodriguez spoke with Suzanne Bona about the ensemble’s ongoing series of uncovered recordings that highlight the musical genius of composers such as Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson, William Grant Still, and George Walker, to name just a few.
