Camping reservations are open and are filling up quickly Parks Superintendent Karlin Ziegler says campsites were closed an extra month last year, but they still saw an increase in campers. Posted: Jan 5, 2021 6:37 PM Updated: Jan 6, 2021 7:38 AM Posted By: Mary Peters ROCHESTER, Minn. - We aren t even a month into winter, so it may seem premature to start planning for summertime.  But we may need to start doing that.  Olmsted County Parks have already started accepting reservations for campsites and they are filling up.  The campgrounds open April 30th.  Parks Superintendent Karlin Ziegler says campsites were closed an extra month last year, but they still saw an increase in campers.

Oxbow nature center construction to begin in spring

County commissioners OK $4.8 million building contract. 7:28 am, Dec. 17, 2020 × Artist rendering for improvements to the Nature Center at Oxbow Park (Contributed art) A nearly $4.8 million contract for construction of a new nature center in Olmsted County’s Oxbow Park puts the project approximately $500,000 under its targeted $8 million budget. “The construction would start next spring and it looks to be a 10- to 12-month construction process for the building itself,” said Olmsted County Parks Superintendent Karlin Ziegler. County commissioners unanimously approved the contract with Mankato-based APX Construction Group, which is also building the Southeast Regional Crisis Center on the county s east campus.

Olmsted County s plans to build a brand new nature center, a new entry way for Zollman Zoo, and all new landscaping are well underway after the County board got approval of a construction team Tuesday morning. Olmsted County is constructing a whole new nature center building, as the old structure built in the 80 s can t handle the increased visitors.
