Hailey Peterson spoiled the possibility of a Hickory-Kellam state final with a walk-off grand slam to give Riverside a win over Hickory. Riverside and Kellam will play for the Class 5 softball championship Saturday.
In softball, Kellam got big hitting efforts from Karley Boone, who hit a game-winning two-run home run in the top of the 10th of a 9-8 win over Western Branch, and Abby Adamek, who went 4 for 4 with three RBIs while pitching the Knights to a win over Kempsville.
