The high school softball season in Union County featured parity with all of the teams competing on similar levels. Only one school advanced to the state tournament - Smackover, which qualified in Class 3A.
Individually, several players managed to separate themselves from the pack and combine to form the News-Times All-Area Softball Team.
Junction City is scheduled to play Murfreesboro Thursday at 5:30 p.m., in the first round of the 2A South Regional Softball Tournament at Parkers Chapel.
JUNCTION CITY - Junction City topped Gurdon 19-9 Saturday to secure the No. 3 seed in next week’s regional tournament. The Lady Dragons improved to 12-10 and will meet Murfreesboro Thursday at 5:30 p.m., at Parkers Chapel.
JUNCTION CITY - Rison scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth and gunned down a runner at the plate in the top of the seventh and beat Junction City 8-7 in the semifinals of the 2A 8 District Tournament on Friday.
JUNCTION CITY - Junction City senior De’Nyah Brown made contact when it counted Thursday, drilling a walk-off, grand slam home run in the bottom of the seventh to beat Parkers Chapel 13-11 in the 2A 8 District Tournament.
