With the new year fast approaching, HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) is calling on Oldham s 26,500 Self Assessment customers not to miss the January 31 deadline.
The 2019-20 tax return can be finalised at any time up to the deadline, but HMRC is encouraging customers to complete it early to allow for more time to pay their tax bill or set up a payment plan.
Customers must complete a Self Assessment return if:
· they’ve earned more than £2,500 from renting out property

More than 8,600 savers across the North West have earned their first Help to Save bonus payment, each receiving an average of £381 in time for Christmas, HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has revealed.
Help to Save is the UK government backed saving scheme.
It was launched in September 2018 to help those eligible save up to £50 a month in a secure savings account.
For every £1 saved, people can earn a bonus of 50 pence, over four years.

Contractor Umbrella News: HMRC reminding people of changes to Capital Gains tax as deadline looms
From April of this year, new rules have been put into place with regards to how Capital Gains tax is declared and paid.
People have until 31
st January 2021 to declare on their self-assessment tax return, any profit made from selling a UK residential property (which was not their main home) during the 2019-2020 financial year, and pay the Capital Gains Tax that is due.
The new rules will affect landlords or property developers selling on part of their residential property portfolio, or UK residents who sell a residential property that is not their primary home.
