“The purpose of it is to get patients attached to GPs, strengthen the existing relationships between GPs and their existing patients and create capacity,” said Dr. Karin Kausky, physician lead for A GP for Me at the Whistler Medical Clinic. “We have over 53 members, almost all of our physicians in the corridor engaged in it, which is a great thing. It allows us as a group to identify problems, come up with solutions and then work collaboratively with health authorities.” The need for stronger doctor-patient relationships was identified in a community assessment where residents in the Sea to Sky were polled about their health care needs.“Obviously we didn’t poll everybody, but we estimated that there’s probably around 2,000 people around our Sea to Sky division who don’t have a family doctor, but would like one,” Kausky said.
