Ambulance opens Stanmore station Click the image above to view slideshow A funding boost has enabled the creation of a brand new ambulance station in  Whangaparāoa, which St John says will improve its emergency response times on the peninsula. The new station is in Karepiro Drive in Stanmore Bay. Until now, crews had to travel to the peninsula from the St John base in Silverdale Village, or from a post that it has operated at Manly Fire Station since 2015. A St John spokesperson says it vacated the Fire and Emergency premises in Manly during last year’s Covid-19 lockdowns, to enable physical distancing of crews.

Local Matters - Mitre 10 prepares for move

Mitre 10 prepares for move Mitre 10’s new store in Coast Plaza involves extending the existing building recently vacated by The Warehouse. Mitre 10 Whangaparāoa’s move from Karepiro Drive to Coast Plaza is in the planning and consenting stages. Resource consent was granted in January for the company to make additions and alterations to the existing building, recently vacated by The Warehouse. The building will be extended, including a cafe and 640.5sqm for a larger garden centre, which extends to the northern site boundary. The extension will be built over existing paved areas. It will block off the existing one-way vehicle access from the eastern carpark down to the western and basement carparks. Access to the western and basement car parks on Link Crescent will be retained.

Local Matters - Changing Places: City Carpets

Changing Places: City Carpets Shalome Williams A local family with more than 50 years’ combined experience in the flooring trade has given its business profile a boost with a move to a new showroom at 611 Whangaparāoa Road. City Carpets was previously in Karepiro Drive, but when a site on the main road came up late last year, business founder Dexter Richardson, together with daughter Shalome and her husband Michael, snapped up the more prominent site. As well as displays and samples from leading global manufacturers, the shop carries a good range of offcuts and end of lines in store, meaning there are always bargains to be had.
