Fully vaccinated students can go maskless in New Mexico schools

LAS CRUCES - Students who are not vaccinated against COVID-19 will have to wear masks in public secondary schools in New Mexico to start the 2021-2022 school year. Students, teachers, school staff, visitors and volunteers who are vaccinated will not have to wear masks in secondary schools. Masks will be required for everyone in elementary schools, regardless of vaccination status. Masks will not be required outdoors for any grade level, and schools are encouraged to maximize their use of outdoor learning.  These notes and other masking guidance from the New Mexico Public Education Department were released in an updated toolkit Monday.

LCPS responds to state mandates for new school year

LAS CRUCES -  The New Mexico Public Education Department released the latest COVID-19 toolkit for public and charter schools on Monday, enabling leaders with Las Cruces Public Schools to finalize plans for what the upcoming school year will look like for students and staff. The most notable update provided relaxed mask mandates for those who are vaccinated, new definitions of close contacts and required surveillance testing for unvaccinated employees.   “We will be ready,” said LCPS Superintendent Ralph Ramos after reviewing the 26-page document. “The safety of our students and staff will always remain our priority, and having a clear set of expectations allows us to communicate with our families what the school year will look like starting Aug. 9.”

LAS CRUCES – Las Cruces Public Schools awarded two educators on Wednesday for their service to the district and Las Cruces community. Robbi Berry was named the 2022 Teacher of the Year and Crystal Flores was named the 2022 Educational Support Personnel of the Year. The two were selected from six finalists and 89 total nominations. The winners were announced at a small ceremony at the Dr. Karen M. Trujillo Administrative Complex.
