RIG Arts have pulled different artforms together by working with specialists from several different fields, including wire art, stained glass and textiles. They linked up with local people to explore the natural and cultural environment of Inverclyde.

Film school to launch in Inverclyde

IT will be a case of lights, camera and action when a film school is launched in Inverclyde this year. RIG Arts is running the three-year project which will offer local young people an opportunity to learn about all aspects of the industry. Karen Orr, of RIG Arts, said: We are asking young people to create a short film inspired by Broomhill Project and Northern Soul in conjunction with industry professionals. The project aims to teach young people new skills and realise their ambitions. It will give them the opportunity to create their own work, right through to the finished product.

New £10,000 gateway to the Glen opens in Greenock

The mosaic decorated archway means people can now see the entrance from the roadway. The steel structure is decorated with the words Auchmountain Glen on the front and the back features drawings and ideas from local people and schoolchildren on the theme of nature and the seasons. It has been a collaboration between Auchmountain Glen Group, local residents, RIG Arts and artist Alan Porter and was made possible with funding from Inverclyde Council. Karen Orr, of RIG Arts, said: I love the fact that this is the result of community consultation and involvement. People who live here came up with the ideas of what they wanted on the arch and nature was something that they loved about the Glen.
