officials say 290 people are dead, this is the deadliest tornado outbreak in the united states in nearly four decades. the hardest hit area by far is alabama. let s go now to the city of tuscaloosa where we find abc s tom hendron. reporter: all day and night long rescue workers have been s.i.s.t.ing rubble like that in hopes of finding survivors. they hoped this would be a rescue mission. there were no rescues here today that were successful. only recoveries. it looks like a lethal broom southwest a past the wizard is this of the mississippi for miles. it was here 5 minutes and it was gone. more than 160 twisters swept through. cars were carried off like paper coyotes and so much more death. 290 people were killed. more than 190 in alabama alone. the worst state of cyclone destruction in nearly 40 years. tuscaloosa felt the worst of it. justin, justin. the sisters of 15-year-old justin thomas were desperate to find him. he has been missing since the storm. i hav
