Miles was particularly concerned that the dumping could lead to the increase of pest plants near the river, while she was also concerned that it could lead to a fire hazard. “If that garden waste is tinder dry, then it could become a fire risk. We saw that happen two summers ago in Nelson, people can be rather blasé about it, but it’s potentially very dangerous. “You’ve got to be careful, I would like to see people be more respectful. This is a place where people live and play and it’s awful that people feel like they can pollute it.”
