Plymouth designated higher risk for COVID-19 infections

Wicked Local PLYMOUTH – The town is seeing red now that the second surge of COVID-19 infections has hit home. The recent uptick in confirmed cases means the town is now designated as a “red” community with a higher risk of contracting the virus in the state’s ranking system. “Plymouth is back in the red category again,” said Barry Potvin, chair of the local Board of Health. “We are one of 158 communities of 351 other such towns and cities in Massachusetts to reach this level.” In the most recent two-week tracking period, the town averaged 27.8 positive daily tests per 100,000 people. Total cases from Nov. 26 through Dec. 8 were 244 for a positive test rate 4.61 percent. Health officials become wary when daily positive rates exceed 1 percent.
