Protesters at MI Capitol share insight on proposed voting legislation
Hundreds gathered on April 13 outside of the Michigan Capitol to protest against the proposed legislation to bring change to voting procedures in Michigan.
Hundreds gathered at the Michigan Capitol Tuesday to protest a series of Republican-backed legislation that would bring great change to voting in the state.
While the Republican Party claims the 39-bill package will make it easier to vote, they would require voters to submit photo identification, prohibit the mass mailing of absentee ballot applications and bar clerks from counting absentee ballots in the weeks prior to the election.
You see people that are just, they re desperate, said Monaghan, a 27-year-old manufacturing engineer. They ve tried everything, and to finally be able to get them that appointment for them, it s just the best feeling in the world.
Monaghan started the state s first vaccine hunters Facebook group on Feb. 11, but then split it up into three separate groups for the Detroit area, western Michigan and Up North. The vast majority of the work we do right now is connecting eligible people to appointments and helping them navigate the somewhat fragmented system of getting an appointment, Monaghan said. We re hearing from a lot of people who live out of state but have elderly parents that live in the area and are trying to navigate the Michigan system of getting their elderly parents that appointment.
