Everyone can be a Scot for the day at Long Island Scottish Festival

Old Westbury Gardens will fill its lush grounds with the sounds of bagpipers and Scottish revelry as it welcomes the latest edition of the Scottish Festival and Highland Games. The annual spectacle on Saturday, Aug. 26, brings plenty of Scottish flair to the storied estate, presented by the Long Island Clan MacDuff.

Action along the midway

Cotton candy, zeppole, the ubiquitous Ferris wheel. Of course, it must be time for the fair. That summertime staple is back again, taking over the Nassau Coliseum grounds, through July 16.

The sky will be aglow for the annual spectacle that marks our Independence Day, always a rousing celebration. While the main event is Tuesday, of course, the county-wide festivities begin Saturday, with plenty of local fireworks to enjoy.

Band of brothers

Bound by blood and a mutual love of American roots music, the Bacon Brothers have spent the past quarter-century in a creative whirl, funneling their shared DNA into their unique sound that crosses genres. They call that sound “Forosoco” a blend of folk, rock, soul and country influences, delivered by two songwriters who were born to collaborate and it’s taken the siblings across the world.
