Halifax Health Medical Center has filed a lawsuit accusing AdventHealth’s Hospital in Daytona Beach of failing to provide up to $71.9 million worth of uncompensated care in the past 10 years as required by an agreement between the two hospitals.
In their response, AdventHealth attorneys dispute that they owe Halifax anything.
The dispute goes back to AdventHealth’s decision to close its old Ormond Memorial Hospital at 875 Sterthaus Drive In Ormond Beach in 2005 and move to 301 Memorial Medical Parkway in Daytona Beach.
Halifax Health initially challenged the move which required state approval of a certificate of need. The two sides eventually settled with Halifax agreeing to drop its opposition in exchange for AdventHealth providing 5.5% annually of uncompensated care or charity care, according to the lawsuit,
