BANTAMWEIGHT BOUT 135LBS: #3 ROB FONT 18-4 VS #4 CODY GARBRANDT 12-3
This is a low key really good main event. Font has been on a little tear as of late, beating the new Bellator champ Sergio Pettis, Ricky Simon, and finishing Marlon Moraes last December. He’s been very impressive and now will stare across at former champ Cody Garbrandt, who always brings the heat. Garbrandt has a wrestling base but prefers the stand-up game, looking to throw bombs and get into wars. It s his greatest asset, but also

Last week’s UFC Vegas 26 fight night ended up something of a mishmash of last second matchmaking and reorganization following a bad run of injury and illness luck. What was supposed to be TJ Dillashaw vs. Cory Sandhagen ended up as Marina Rodriguez vs. Michelle Waterson. And Diego Sanchez saw his final UFC bout end before it even started, getting tossed out on his ear just a week out from the event resulting in Alex Morono stepping up to fight ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone on a few days notice. Despite all that, however, the last few bouts of the night delivered solid entertainment.
Marina Rodriguez, fighting on short notice, arrives two days late after hang-ups in travel
Marina Rodriguez has had an absolutely brutal few days leading into her first-ever UFC headlining role.
Already fighting on short notice Saturday against Michelle Waterson in the flyweight main event of UFC Fight Night, Rodriguez has also had to endure a series of travel issues, including a 20-hour travel day that landed her in the host city two days later than usual.
Rodriguez vs. Waterson was not agreed upon until April 27 and not made official by the UFC until this past Tuesday. The original Fight Night main event this weekend was supposed to be a bantamweight contender bout between former champion TJ Dillashaw and Cory Sandhagen, but Dillashaw withdrew due to an injury.
Michelle Waterson didn’t hesitate to accept when the UFC offered her another short-notice main event fight.
“It will be my fourth main event and I’m really excited,” Waterson said on Just Scrap Radio on BJPENN.com. “I’m glad the UFC has faith in me to bring the audience in. I’m on cloud nine here.”
Waterson enters this fight coming off a split decision win over Angela Hill last September, which was also a shot notice five-round main event for Waterson. Despite the fact, her last fight was just like this one, The Karate Hottie says she isn’t looking back on that scrap as she knows this bout with Rodriguez is completely different.
Rodriguez-Michelle Waterson to headline Saturday s UFC Fight Night card in Las Vegas
UFC finally has an official main event for this coming weekend.
Marina Rodriguez will meet the popular Michelle Waterson in the UFC Fight Night headliner Saturday in Las Vegas, the promotion announced Tuesday. The originally scheduled main event between former bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw and top contender Cory Sandhagen was postponed last week due to a Dillashaw injury.
Rodriguez and Waterson are both top strawweights, but the bout will be contested a division up at flyweight due to the short-notice nature of the situation. The bout will still be five rounds, like typical UFC main events.
