When the jail inmate contract between Daviess and McLean counties ended Dec. 1, part of that included an agreement between animal shelters.
McLean County Judge-Executive Curtis Dame said McLean County was paying Daviess County $18,000 a year to house its animals.
âLooking forward, we can take that $18,000 that we paid and put it back into running the shelter here,â Dame said.
Dame said he and Animal Control Officer Billy Jones have been in contact with shelters in other counties to see if there was interest in assisting McLean County.
Dame said the network that he and Jones are working on now would allow them access to 24 shelters.

Island farmer Jonathan Miller was elected as a chairman for the national Soy Transportation Coalition.
âI was born and raised to be a farmer,â he said. âI was the only one of us three brothers to stick around on the farm.â
Miller attended Kentucky Wesleyan College for accounting but decided to use his taught skill on the farm rather than becoming a CPA.
âItâs a hobby that turned into a job,â Miller said. âMy dad used to own a produce business and we sold watermelons and tomatoes and things like that to the Foodlands in Owensboro years ago. Farming was just something they did on top of that.â
