A hefty chunk of money will give Northeast Michiganders who have survived a drug overdose a helping hand in preventing a second overdose.
Catholic Human Services, with an office in Alpena, was announced last week as one of seven Michigan recipients of grants totalling over $1 million. The funds will be used to form post-overdose rapid response teams who will contact and visit overdose survivors within 24 to 72 hours.
That window is a critical time in which to engage people who use drugs and connect them with resources to prevent a repeated overdose, according to the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, one of the grants’ sponsors.
