In their best effort since the New Year, the Kansas State Wildcats pushed No. 13 Texas Tech until the last two minutes at Bramlage Coliseum Saturday before falling 73-62.
K-State (5-15, 1-10 Big 12) turned up defensive pressure, contested shots and fought the Red Raiders (14-5, 6-4) from start to finish. It was almost enough. The Cats hung around in striking distance, and the game was tied at 32 early in the second half before Tech went on a 12-1 run to gain its first double-digit lead at 44-33. The Wildcats would not fold, though.

Holiday off week comes to an end tonight at 7:00 when the K-State men return to the basketball floor to face the Omaha (née “University of Nebraska-Omaha) Mavericks in Bramlage Coliseum.
Omaha is 2-7 under 16th-year coach Derrin Hansen. Though the Mavs were competitive in many early games, they have struggled against quality competition, losing 95-50 to Kansas, 91-49 to Colorado, 94-67 to Creighton, and 87-66 to Drake. Until the Wildcats’ 70-46 win over Jacksonville last Tuesday, though, K-State had not shown itself capable of blowing any team out.

The Kansas State Wildcats hosted the Jacksonville Dolphins in a rare midweek matinee Monday and dominated from the start in a 70-46 Wildcat victory.
There is an old adage in basketball that shooters gain confidence by seeing the ball go through the hoop. Maybe watching Baylor pour in fourteen three-point buckets Saturday inspired K-State, because the Cats started the game 8-12 from deep in building a 19-point halftime lead. They would cool off and finish 11-32 (34.4%) from outside, but once the Cats established a double-digit lead at the 9:32 mark of the first half, they never allowed the Dolphins to get within single digits again.
