First Mysuru City Kannada Sahitya Sammelana begins

Call for united fight to protect Kannada land, culture Mysore/Mysuru: The day-long first ever City Kannada Sahitya Sammelana got off to a colourful start this morning with the Sammelana Chairperson and veteran woman writer Aryamba Pattabhi, accompanied by City Kannada Sahitya Parishat President K.S. Shivaramu and District Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Dr. Y.D. Rajanna, being brought in a procession on a motor-powered Sarot (Chariot) from Kuvempu Statue at the main entrance to Manasagangothri from Bogadi road side to Vijnana Bhavan in Manasagangothri campus.  A host of folk troupes too were part of the procession. Actor ‘Mukhyamantri’ Chandru, who is also a former Chairman of Kannada Development Authority, inaugurated the day-long event by lighting the lamp along with other dignitaries.

Till date, the civic body has issued 2,030 notices to commercial establishments and of them, 60% have removed errant boards and some have asked for time relaxation HUBBALLI: Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) is all set to initiate action against shopkeepers who fail to put Kannada name boards on their shops. The civic body is now gearing up to launch a drive for the second time against commercial establishments, hotels, malls, and other shops which have put up name boards in English instead of Kannada. HDMC had launched a drive in November and removed many boards erected against the rule, and also slapped notices to many commercial establishments to change their display boards. Some have fallen in line while many have not yet.

Nagabharana addressing a review meeting in Kalaburagi on Tuesday.   Taking note of complaints about bank employees not speaking Kannada during their interaction with customers, Chairman of Kannada Development Authority T.S. Nagabharana has directed the Lead Bank of Kalaburagi to submit a report to him within a month on the status of Kannada knowledge among bank employees in the district. He was reviewing the progress of Kannada implementation in governance at the district administrative complex here on Tuesday.
