Gov. Jim Justice has declared May 2024 Older Americans Month in West Virginia, aiming to honor older adults' contributions to society and raise awareness of senior services.
The senior program run by East End Resource Center at Roosevelt Community Center is in its 18th year of bringing seniors from all walks of life together for fellowship, food and hobbies. The program, which runs on Wednesdays and Thursdays, offers crafting classes, a Bible study, speakers and free lunch. It was started by Sandra Barkey around 18 years ago. Volunteers like Genene Gourley keep it going. Jane Parrish teaches ceramics.
