Four-storey building razed in Mehmoodabad Nullah operation

Karachi January 25, 2021 The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) Anti-Encroachment Department demolished a four-storey residential building along the bank of the Mehmoodabad Nullah in the city’s District East on Saturday. Anti-Encroachment Senior Director Bashir Siddiqui said that an operation is under way in the surroundings of the storm water drain, adding that the KMC has been removing the debris as they move forward. By the end of the operation, there will be at least 15 feet of space available for vehicles to ply the road on either side of the nullah. The operation had kicked off from Manzoor Colony’s fire station, moving towards Bismillah Chowk and then to Awam Chowk, finally reaching near Mehmoodabad. A few residents were seen demolishing illegally protruding portions of their houses themselves to avoid major losses.

Action begins to raze all kinds of encroachments along Mehmoodabad Nullah s banks

Karachi January 17, 2021 The anti-encroachment drive under way to clear both sides of the Mehmoodabad Nullah in District East intensified on Saturday when the removal of all kinds of encroachments kicked off. According to details shared by senior anti-encroachment director Bashir Siddiqui, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) continued demolishing the portions of shops and houses that were illegally protruding over the road along the banks of the storm water drain, while houses whose occupants had been given additional few days to vacate were also razed. A three-floor building along the nullah was demolished during the operation on Saturday. Two- to-three floor buildings illegally built on the land will be demolished now.

3-km bank of Mehmoodabad drain cleared of encroachments

Karachi January 15, 2021 By the end of day four of the second phase of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) massive operation for clearing both sides of the Mehmoodabad Nullah in District East, around three kilometres of the five-kilometre bank of the storm water drain was rid of encroachments. Moreover, on the orders of Karachi Administrator Laeeq Ahmed, another operation was carried out in District Central under the supervision of the KMC director for the district, Kamran Alvi. KMC Anti-Encroachment Senior Director Bashir Siddiqui said on Thursday that stalls, cabins and makeshift offices of NGOs and charity organisations were removed from Sakhi Hassan Chowrangi, KDA Chowrangi, Five Star Chowrangi and Nagan Chowrangi.

KMC conducts anti-encroachment drive in three districts

Karachi January 2, 2021 The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) conducted a major anti-encroachment operation on Friday in three districts of the city on directives issued by Administrator Laeeq Ahmed. According to details shared by senior director for anti-encroachment Bashir Siddiqui, the operation was carried out in major markets, thoroughfares and streets of the Central, East and South districts. In District Central’s North Karachi area, all the way from Power House Chowrangi till Nagan Chowrangi, all kinds of commercial encroachments were removed. “Pushcarts, cabins, grills, chairs, tables and kiosks on roads and footpaths were removed,” Siddiqui said, adding that sunshades which were protruding onto roads were also brought down by KMC officials.
