The enhanced MCO was enforced starting yesterday after a number of Covid-19 cases were detected at the riverine village, resulting in the Bako Hilir cluster. Villager Yusri Saini has been looking forward to the Hari Raya celebration but it would now have to be scaled down completely. “As Kampung Bako Hilir is now under the EMCO, I hope people will understand the situation and those from outside the village will not come to visit, ” he said.

Covid-19: 512 new cases in Sarawak on May 11, half from Miri division

KUCHING: Sarawak reported 512 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday (May 11), with half coming from Miri division, says the state disaster management committee. It said 256 cases were recorded in the northern division s three districts, comprising 160 in Miri, 75 in Subis and 21 in Beluru. Of this total, 222 cases are close contacts who have been given quarantine orders. Another 21 cases were detected among oil and gas workers screened prior to signing on for duty, the committee said in a statement on Tuesday (May 11). The cumulative tally of confirmed cases in Sarawak now stands at 36,321. The committee also said there were two more deaths involving a 63-year-old woman and a 64-year-old man, taking the state s death toll to 211.
