IPOH, Jan 31 The Department of Environment (DOE) has sealed the processing system of a ceramic factory in Sitiawan believed to have released untreated effluent into the public drain at the Kampung Acheh Industrail Area last night.
Perak DOE director, Rosli Zul said the offence was detected through ‘Op Teras’ conducted by the DOE Teluk Intan Branch from 9.30pm to 1am.
“We have sealed the ceramic factory’s equipment as it is believed to have released untreated effluent into the public drain and this could have an adverse impact on the quality of the body of water.
IPOH: A marine policeman has been charged with 43 counts of graft at a Sessions Court here.

According to the charge sheet, Zubairi, 60, who is an off-shore patrol vessel unit chief, was said to have received a total of RM146,350 between May 2016 and July 2019 from the savings account of Lim Mee Lan as an inducement not to take action on the owner of several vessels, who had committed offences under the Fisheries Act.
He was charged under Section 17(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act.
LUMUT (Bernama): The carcass of a 1.5-tonne whale shark, of the Rhincodon Typus species, was found floating in the waters off Pulau Pangkor here on Friday (Jan 22).
Rantau Abang Fisheries Research Institute (FRI) Marine Mammal Branch chief Mohd Tamimi Ali Ahmad said the 5.7-metre long male whale shark, which is believed to be five years old, was spotted by fishermen at about 3pm.
Upon receiving information on the matter, a joint operation was conducted by the branch and Kampung Acheh FRI as well as the My Teluk Senangin My Fisheries Community.
They found the carcass near the Damar Laut Jetty near here at 6.30pm Saturday (Jan 23).

KUANTAN, Jan 21: When floods strike, the authorities will usually focus on evacuating and helping human victims but many disregard animal welfare during the natural disaster.
This has prompted a group of people with strong affection for cats here, who call themselves Sahabat Kucing Jalanan Pahang (SKJP), to take charge in the mission to ‘rescue’ these little furries.
Sharing about the mission, SKJP chairman Jurina Abdul Rani said during the recent floods, she and her fellow club members managed to rescue 200 cats including stray cats around Kuantan and Pekan.
LUMUT (Jan 15): Almost 1,000 workers of a rubber glove company were today found staying in overcrowded quarters at two locations here and the facilities also did not have accommodation certificates from the Peninsula Malaysia Labour Department (JTK).
Peninsula Malaysia JTK, Legal and Enforcement Division director Zaini Yaakob said the conditions clearly flouted the provision under the Workers Minimum Standards of Housing and Amenities Act 1990 (Act 446). Indeed, our inspection showed overcrowding whereby a bedroom which should only have two occupants was shared by more than four workers, he said after conducting inspectiona at both the workers quarters here today.
Zaini said all the six blocks at the two workers quarters were found to be clean.
