Kampala Archbishop, Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, had a lively participation in the public Way of the Cross on Good Friday, but to the shock of everyone, he never woke up from his sleep. He was 68. Our correspondent, Ritah Kemigisa, brings the prelate’s last public words, which he spoke on behalf of Uganda Joint Christian Council (UJCC), at the Anglican Namirembe Cathedral in Kampala.

Kampala mayor Lukwago faints during requiem mass for Archbishop Lwanga

Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago has been evacuated from Lubaga Cathedral after collapsing during the mass to commemorate the life of former Kampala Archbishop Dr. Cyprian Lwanga.
Lukwago, who was seated in the area reserved for VIPs, was lifted by two men and evacuated through the door linking to the priest’s residence shortly after collapsing in his chair today afternoon. Lwanga was found dead in his bedroom on Saturday morning, a day after participating in the way of the cross.
A postmortem report has indicated that Lwanga suffered ischemic heart disease leading to coronary artery thrombosis. His personal doctor Andrew Sekitoleko says he suffered a blood clot in one of the arteries leading to the heart.
