Bombay HC rejects 2 pleas to quash CBI FIR against Anil Deshmukh | Mumbai News

Bombay high court (File photo) MUMBAI: The Bombay high court on Thursday dismissed two petitions to quash completely or partly an FIR registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against former state home minister Anil Deshmukh and unknown others for criminal conspiracy and offence of undue gains as a public servant under the Prevention of Corruption Act. A bench of Justices S S Shinde and N J Jamadar, while dismissing the state’s petition to delete two paras from the FIR, said the CBI can legitimately inquire into the aspect of transfer and postings of police officers, “so also (the) reinstatement of Sachin Waze after 15 years, to the extent those transfers and posting have nexus with offences alleged against then Home Minister and his associates keeping in view the observations of the bench in the order of April 5”.

Anil Deshmukh (File photo) MUMBAI: The Enforcement Directorate had on Wednesday summoned former state home minister Anil Deshmukh’s wife Aarti for questioning in connection with the money laundering case but she did not turn up. Her lawyer Kamlesh Ghumre said she had communicated to the ED that since she was around 66 years old and suffering from various ailments, she was unable to go in person. The ED had earlier summoned Deshmukh and their son Hrishikesh. Ghumre said, “Aarti Deshmukh has sent a letter stating that she will cooperate with the probes and join via video conferencing. She will send any documents that are required.” He also said Aarti was a housewife and had no connection with the case. The ED sought details about Aarti Deshmukh’s income-tax returns, sources of income and proprieties. Sources said she had financial connections in a few of the companies that are under ED’s scanner.
