MUMBAI: The Enforcement Directorate had on Wednesday summoned former state home minister Anil Deshmukh’s wife Aarti for questioning in connection with the money laundering case but she did not turn up. Her lawyer Kamlesh Ghumre said she had communicated to the ED that since she was around 66 years old and suffering from various ailments, she was unable to go in person.
The ED had earlier summoned Deshmukh and their son Hrishikesh. Ghumre said, “Aarti Deshmukh has sent a letter stating that she will cooperate with the probes and join via video conferencing. She will send any documents that are required.” He also said Aarti was a housewife and had no connection with the case. The ED sought details about Aarti Deshmukh’s income-tax returns, sources of income and proprieties. Sources said she had financial connections in a few of the companies that are under ED’s scanner.
