The DA said the fire, which left about 150 families living in the informal settlement homeless, could have been prevented if government moved quicker with its promise to build houses and develop the area.
The City of Tshwane says the residents of an informal settlement in Kameeldrift can only be resettled once the city’s township establishment application is approved.
Scores of people were left homeless after the fire started at a nearby dumping site on Tuesday night, and spread rapidly, making its way to the densely populated row of structures.
