Long before entering politics, Harris early childhood in Berkeley gave her an opportunity to be an agent of change when she was bused across town to be part of the second class to integrate her public school, Thousand Oaks Elementary School.
Harris first ran for public office as San Francisco District Attorney in 2002, defeating her former boss to become the first African-American woman to serve as district attorney in California. Harris is biracial, identifying as both Black and Indian.

Kamala Harris is making her
Vogue cover debut for the magazine’s February issue. In one photo – shot by Beyoncé’s photographer, Tyler Mitchell – the first African American and Asian American vice president-elect had on a powder suit. In the cover image, she’s wearing a black blazer and pants with white top and black and white Converse. The pink and green background and the pearls she wore were a nod to her sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc.
The Twitterverse was not pleased with the way Harris looked. They thought her image was deliberately washed out to make her look lighter. One user called it a
