COLOMBO (News 1st): The Disaster Management Center states that heavy rains have affected the Northern, Eastern, Central, North Western, and Uva Provinces.
8,021 people from 2,623 families had been affected by the heavy rains. One person has died and four people are missing, The Disaster Management Center further added.
Meanwhile, water levels in several reservoirs have risen due to heavy rains.
Several spill gates of the Rajanganaya, Deduru Oya, and Kalugal Oya reservoirs have also been opened, said the Director of Water Management of the Irrigation Department, Engineer D. Abeysiriwardena.
D. Abeysiriwardena also urged the people living in the low lying areas around Rajanganaya and Deduru Oya reservoirs to be vigilant.

Mon, Dec 21, 2020, 11:12 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka. Dec 21, Colombo: President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has instructed the Irrigation Department to take steps to expedite the construction of irrigation schemes currently under construction.
Accordingly, the Irrigation Department stated that it will monitor the construction work of projects in the Anuradhapura, Ampara, Hambantota, Puttalam and Kurunegala districts and after identify the shortcomings will expedite the construction work.
Arrangements have been made to complete the construction of the Kalugal Oya Reservoir Project in the Ampara District as soon as possible.
The proposed reservoir will be built by constructing a 300 meter long dam across the Kalugal Oya which flows near the Bandaraduwa village in the Uhana Divisional Secretariat Division in the Ampara District of the Eastern Province.
