On 31 December, the peacekeepers’ mandate expired. Now, reports Ayin, Sudanese security forces including the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces previously called the Janjaweed when they backed Bashir are tasked with keeping the peace and protecting the hundreds of thousand internal refugees.
