Jon Hegerle Named NAIA Coach of the Year; Hegerle, Holen Named All-Americans

(NewsDakota.com) – The postseason awards for the University of Jamestown women’s volleyball team continued to roll in on Tuesday afternoon as Jon Hegerle was named the NAIA Coach of the Year and Kalli Hegerle and Anna Holen earned First Team All-American Honors. Hegerle and Holen become the first Jimmies ever to earn First Team All-Americans. Hegerle was tied for the team-high in hitting percentage this season at .305 and ranked second in kills behind just Holen who was first with 322 kills. Holen also finished second on the team in digs and both Holen and Hegerle were named to the AVCA All-Region team earlier this week.

(NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown controlled the match from the start on Thursday evening in Sioux City as the #1 Jimmies swept #8 Eastern Oregon (25-22, 25-20, 25-21) to move on to the National Semifinals. Jamestown battled with the Mountaineers in set one before going on a 3-0 run late in set one to cap off a first set victory. Eastern Oregon responded by starting set two up 10-4 before the Jimmies rattled off 21 of the final 31 points to take set two as well. UJ would hop out early in game three and take the match, ending Eastern Oregon’s season.

#1 Jimmies Sweep Northwestern En Route to GPAC Postseason Title

(NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown women’s volleyball team capped off a great conference season on Saturday afternoon with a sweep of #5 Northwestern (25-21, 25-22, 25-21) to win the GPAC postseason title. The Jimmies got rolling early on Saturday in the first set behind junior Kalli Hegerle and freshman Nichole Schmitz who each had four kills in set one. Rachel Schiele provided a service ace and the Jimmies held the Red Raiders to a .150 hitting percentage to take set one. Hegerle ended the match with 10 kills and six digs with a .233 attack percentage. Taylor Sabinash rebounded from a tough night on Wednesday against Midland with five kills and just one error to hit .444. The Jimmies were able to spread out their attack all across the court, and junior Anna Holen recorded a double-double with 23 digs and 11 kills. Schmitz also finished near double figures with eight kills.
