Residents of Andharmanik and Jaynagar areas under Manikganj Municipality yesterday organised a human chain demanding that the authorities concerned take steps to protect their homesteads and croplands from Kaliganga river erosion.
About 1,500 families of eight villages in Daulatpur upazila have lost their homesteads, fruit orchards and vast croplands due to erosion by the Kaliganga river in the last few years.
Hundreds of families in Patilapara area in Manikganj’s Saturia upazila have been affected by river erosion. Vast crop lands and houses have been washed away by the Dhaleshwari river in the last few days. Hundreds of houses and crop lands, including, Abdur Rahman Khan High School are now at risk of erosion.
