A Wayne teen could spend nearly two decades behind bars for fatally shooting Kaleb Parish, another Wayne teen whom he considered a friend.
Speaking over Zoom, Robert Shoats, 19, said he and Kaleb Parish were friends who grew up together before the gun he was holding went off the evening of July 29 in the 34000 block of Richard Street.
Parish, 18, was transported from the city’s southside to a local hospital in critical condition. He died days later.
“I truly apologize that my mistake took away such an innocent life,” Shoats said during his Friday sentencing. “I will always know the feeling of losing a close friend to the mistake that I made. I pray for the family every night. I wish I could take it back every day.”
