KABUL: In a statement issued on Sunday, the Defence Ministry said Airstrikes in the Afghan provinces of Helmand and Badakhshan provinces killed more than 35 Taliban militants amid the escalating violence in the war-torn country, according to defence officials. It also said that fighter jets targeted Taliban hideouts and positions in parts of Helmand s Nad Ali and Sangin districts, reports by Xinhua. A weapon cache of the militant group was also destroyed during the attacks, the statement added.
The Taliban reportedly controls at least six districts in Helmand province. Meanwhile, in Badakhshan province, the fighter planes struck a Taliban gathering in Argo district, according to an army statement. The Afghan forces earlier claimed killing 81 militants in Kaldar and Chamtal districts of Balkh province on Saturday.

A total of 81 militants were confirmed dead as the Afghan forces, backed by helicopters and fighter planes, launched airstrikes in the northern Balkh province, an army statement released here on Sunday said.
The sorties were launched on Saturday in parts of the restive Kaldar and Chamtal districts, leaving 81 insurgents dead and injuring 43 others, reports Xinhua news agency. A large number of arms and ammunition, as well as over two dozen vehicles and motorbikes of the militants, were also destroyed during the air raids, the statement added.The Taliban militants have claimed capturing nearly 200 districts since early May across Afghanistan. Meanwhile, Afghanistan National Security Adviser Hamdullah Mohib fired another salvo at Pakistan as he said as many as 15,000 militants could enter Afghanistan from Pakistan to fight the Afghan forces.
