St Kilda Town Hall was packed to witness the return of Melbourne's Pammessinian Brotherhood Papaflessas (Papaflessas) to a suburb with a historic connection to both the Brotherhood and the wider Greek community.
Melbourne gained another street with a Greek name after a unanimous decision of the Darebin Council in May to rename a street in Thornbury Kalamata Lane.
When RESIO, a popular Greek street artist was tasked with the job of painting a mural for the side of 2 Gooch Street in Thornbury Melbourne, he was excited. Melbourne born and bred RESIO knows the Greek migrant experience.
The Papaflessas social club, whose Thornbury headquarters are adjacent to Kalamata Lane, had proposed the name to Darebin Council in 2021 as a way to recognise the Greek Community's contribution to Darebin.
