The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, yesterday raised alarm over frequent attacks on its offices nationwide, saying this could derail the 2023 general elections.
The alarm followed yesterday’s attack on its office in Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

The Nigerian Army on Monday said that troops of “Operation Hadin Kai,” have thwarted a fresh attempt by the Boko Haram terrorists to infiltrate and takeover Rann Town, the capital of Kala Balge Local Government Area of Borno State.
This was contained in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja by the Spokesperson of the Nigeria Army, Brig-Gen Mohammed Yerima.
He stated that terrorists on Saturday, May 1, 2021, attempted to disrupt the peace that has been enjoyed by the border town but were engaged in a firefight that lasted about an hour.
Gen Yerima, however, said that the terrorists withdrew with fatal injuries and left behind several weapons and ammunition including anti-aircraft gun barrel, AK 47 rifle, handheld communication radio and different calibres of ammunition.

Reports on the engagement between Nigerian troops and Boko Haram elements in Rann of KalaBalge Local Government Area of Borno State left a top Boko Haram commander dead.
The Boko Haram Commander named Abatcha was gunned down on Saturday during an encounter with troops of the Nigerian Army.
Rann, the headquarters of KalaBalge Local Government is about 350km from Maiduguri and bordered the Chad Republic.
Residents of KalaBalge also said five soldiers were killed.
“We saw the soldiers carrying corpses of five fallen colleagues after the encounter on Saturday,” One of the leaders of the community using Orange network informed newsmen in Maiduguri.

The terrorists in their numbers attempted to disrupt the peace that has been enjoyed by the border town but were met with stiff resistance as the troops in the area took them on a fierce firefight.

The Nigerian Army has said troops of the newly renamed Operation Hadin Kai successfully thwarted an attempt by Boko Haram terrorists to infiltrate Rann town, the capital of Kala Balge Local Government Area in Borno State on Saturday.
A statement by the Director Army Public Relations, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima, said the terrorists met stiff resistance from the troops.
